In
the capital of Peru many children are forced to live in the
street. Often they are preyed upon by gangs, criminals
and other street people. Many take drugs and steal.
Others find menial jobs working, but life is often difficult.
Too often the girls resort to prostitution. The street
creates a pathology of fear, depression, incarceration and
early death. There is a group that reaches out to these
children. It is called the Ayllu Situwa Association.
They provide the children with food, shelter and a means to
attend school. For some of these children it is the
first time someone ever cared about them. Here they
find hope and a chance for a new life.
