The Millennial generation refers to those born after 1980 and the first generation to come of age in the new millennium. According to a report by the Pew Research Center, this group is more ethnically and racially diverse than older adults. They are less religious, less likely to have served in the military, and are on track to become the most educated generation in American history.
Pew also found, that this generation embraces self-expression far more openly than past generations. Three-quarters have created a profile on a social networking site, to which they are actively connected. Most say that they could not image life without a cell phone.
Another interesting aspect of this group is that nearly 40% have a tattoo, compared to just 10%, forty years ago. Gender does not appear to be a factor in that a woman is as likely to get a tattoo as a man. Of those who have a tattoo, about half have two to five and 18% have six or more. For many, the tattoo has become a defining component of their identity.
