The tragedy of the Syrian Civil War continues to be ignored by the Western World. In this war zone, unarmed volunteers from the Syria Civil Defense rush to help their fellow citizens as bombs rain down mercilessly on the civilian population. These volunteers are known as the White Helmets. In a place where public services no longer function, these humanitarian volunteers risk their lives to help anyone in need – regardless of religion or politics. Known for their distinctive headwear, the rescue workers operate in the most dangerous place on earth and have saved more than 100,000 lives over the past five years. The White Helmets come from many professions including bakers, tailors, engineers, pharmacists, painters, carpenters, and students. Thus far, 252 of these volunteers have paid the ultimate price for their compassion, having given their own lives while saving others.
